Egyptian Court Sentences 3 Al Jazeera Journalists To Prison

Image
An Egyptian court sentenced three Al Jazeera TV journalists to three years in prison on Saturday for operating without a press license and broadcasting material harmful to Egypt, a case that has stirred an international outcry. The verdict in a retrial was issued against Mohamed Fahmy, a naturalized Canadian who has given up his Egyptian citizenship, Baher Mohamed, an Egyptian, and Peter Greste, an Australian who was deported in February. Rights advocates say their arrest was part of a crackdown on free speech waged since the army overthrew President Mohamed Mursi, a senior Muslim Brotherhood figure, in July 2013 following mass unrest over his rule. Judge Hassan Farid said the defendants, dubbed the "Marriott Cell" by the local press because they worked out of a hotel belonging to that chain, "are not journalists and not members of the press syndicate" and broadcast with unlicensed equipment. Baher received an additional six months in prison. The state ne

Hulk Hogan Wants To Be Your Next Vice President

The Heritage Foundation's Stephen Moore says a Trump-Hogan ticket is not too far-fetched of an idea. Looks like Donald Trump has an offer to help body slam his competition for the White House. On the set of MSBNC's "Up with Steve Kornacki" on Monday, a panel discussed a recent TMZ report that former WWE wrestler and reality TV star Hulk Hogan said he wants to be Trump's vice presidential running mate. Guest host Jonathan Capehart blew off the probability of the ticket.  "It's already entertainment watching Donald Trump run for president, and do these press conferences where you can't look away because it's like 15, 20 minutes of like a car accident," he said. "But how much is this, Hulk Hogan saying he wants to be the running mate, adding to the sort of dumbing down the running for president?" The Heritage Foundation's Stephen Moore quickly cut in, saying a Trump-Hogan ticket is not too far-fetched of an idea. "

Stolen car returned to owner after 22 years

Image
A South African man has been reunited with his car 22 years after it was stolen, thanks to a dogged police investigator. Pretoria businessman Derick Goosen got a surprising call from warrant officer Kwakwa Ntokola two weeks ago about a gray 1988 Toyota Corolla, the Afrikaans newspaper Beeld reported. Goosen had reported the car stolen back in 1993 but it turned up only last year when police seized a vehicle at a roadblock in the northern province of Limpopo after noticing that its engine number had been scratched off. “I’m going to wash it and drive around in it,” Goosen told the Afrikaans. “Everything inside is still in perfect order. I can’t believe it.”Ntokola, “a true policeman”, then managed to reconstruct the number and eventually traced the owner to Pretoria, police Colonel Ronel Otto told Reuters.
