Nigerian Business Tycoon Kunle Soname Makes History, Buys Portuguese Football Club | Photos

Nigerian business tycoon, Kunle Soname has claimed ownership of Portuguese second division side, Clube Desportivo Feirense.

This was disclosed in a recent statement on the club’s website.


The statement reads: “Last Friday, October 9, we effected a transformation of our club through the sale of part of the capital to our new partners, Tavisstock Global Resource Ltd, led by Kunle Soname. 

“We wish all the stakeholders the best and believe it will be a lasting partnership that would bring great sporting success to Clube Desportivo Feirense.”
According to a report on The Guardian, Soname secured 70% of the club, which last played in the Portuguese top-flight division in 2011.

With the takeover, Soname becomes the first Nigerian to own a club in Nigeria. He is also the president of Nigeria National League side Remo Stars Football Club

Speaking about the takeover,  Soname expressed delight with this great achievement.
He said: “Securing Clube Desportivo Feirense was the next step in the right direction for me. I love everything about the club: the organisation, the philosophy and the fans I have no intention of changing anything in the club because I am satisfied with their operations. 

“Rather, I want to ensure the progress of the club through promotion to the Portuguese Primera division.

“Having been involved in Nigerian football over the years by running Remo Stars Football club, I felt it was time to further develop the team. It would also bring benefits for Nigerian football through players transfer, training for officials and administrators, who have proven they have what it takes to succeed in Europe.

“I still have my commitment to Remo Stars FC; it is the beginning of all I have achieved in football and I will keep improving the team to get it to the greatest heights.”

Soname is also chairman of popular sports betting site Bet9ja, He becomes the first Nigerian the buy an European club.

'Car-in-a-bag' created in Japan

A motorised transporter the size of a tablet computer has been developed by a Japanese engineer. The WalkCar can reach a top speed of just over 6mph (10km/h) and can support riders weighing up to 120kg (265lbs). Inventor Kuniaki Sato said the device was designed for recreational use as well as for business. He told Reuters: "I want to show the world that Japan can also be innovative." 4 dead as typhoon lashes Taiwan

Typhoon Soudelor pounded Taiwan with fierce winds and torrential rain Saturday, leaving four dead and dozens injured, state media reported. Fatalities included a girl, 8, and her mother, who were swept out to sea, Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported. After Taiwan, Soudelor will churn across the sea to mainland China. It is forecast to weaken by then, but is still predicted to pack hurricane-strength winds when it makes landfall late Saturday.The girl’s twin sister is unaccounted for, it said. Soudelor made landfall north of the Taiwanese city of Hualien. Forecasters had predicted the storm would have maximum sustained winds at landfall of about 125 mph (200 kph), the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane. Authorities deployed more than 35,000 military personnel to relocate residents in vulnerable areas as the typhoon made its way across the Pacific Ocean.
